Solar Photovoltaics (SPVs) convert sunlight directly into electricity using semiconductor materials. Solar Thermal systems absorb sunlight to generate heat, which is used directly for water heating, space heating, or industrial processes.
Standard systems cannot, as they use different technologies. However, hybrid systems called PVT (Photovoltaic Thermal) collectors do exist, which capture waste heat from PV panels to heat water while simultaneously generating electricity.
SPV systems mostly require periodic cleaning to remove dust and debris, alongside annual electrical diagnostic checks. Solar thermal systems require occasional fluid flushes (to replace anti-freeze/glycol) and inspections for leaks or pressure drops.
